The Texas Heart Institute Doctors Publish Analysis of the MOMENTUM 3 Trial in the Journal of Cardiac Failure

The Texas Heart Institute cardiology fellows Drs. Isabel C. Balachandran (‘23) and Matthew Segar co-authored an article titled “Conditional Survival after HeartMate 3 Implantation: An Analysis of the MOMENTUM 3 Trial” in the Journal of Cardiac Failure with heart failure specialists, Dr. Nikolaos Diakos and Dr. Joseph G. Rogers, CEO and President of The Texas Heart Institute.

Their analysis of conditional survival from the MOMENTUM 3 trial showed a significant decrease in the risk of death, stroke, and/or device removal or replacement after patients survived the 2-month perioperative period with the device.

“Event-free survival is significantly improved once the patients pass the initial two months following implantation, underscoring the tangible benefits of mechanically assisted circulation with HeartMate3 as a meaningful long-term support strategy for patients with heart failure,“ according to Dr. Nikolaos Diakos, interventional cardiologist and heart failure specialist at The Texas Heart Institute Center for Cardiovascular Care.
